• In the event of a government shutdown, active-duty military members, including the National Guard and reservists on active duty, are required to report for duty but are not paid. Their paychecks are delayed until Congress passes new legislation and ends the shutdown. The Coast Guard is also affected, as it is funded through the Department of Homeland Security, so its members would also not be paid.
