Friday’s are always challenging, news content wise and today is no exception but the rise of the DumbOS and Dumphone.co was a grand opportunity to talk about what’s been lost via dopamine addict creating “smartphones”, here’s an excerpt.
“Why are Generation Zers taking these and throwing them into the river? Why? Because some of them are realizing what it has done and is doing to them.
You know, myself, I find myself struggling with this often. I have to take it, I have to turn it off, and then I have to set it so it’s face down and I can’t see it. It really does take effort. There’s no doubt that you get... Endorphins out of this thing.
What’s the other thing you get endorphins and dopamines? Snowed out you get endorphins and dopamines out of these things. You’re not supposed to have a steady stream of endorphins, though. Being pumped into your noggin is not good for you. And so some people are going like, okay, I just need to back off of this.
You know, I find it... Found it interesting, and I need to ask him, you remember when we interviewed Eric Sammons, and Eric said he quit Twitter, quit X? Well, he’s back. And he’s there like every eight minutes, he’s posting something. I’ve noticed this. Eric Sammons, not quite as old as me. He’s in a generation below me.

Dr. Brad Berzer is another one. Are he and I contemporary? No, he’s a little younger than I am. There are all these supposedly intellectual righties that are on X, and it looks like they live there. I mean, I don’t know how some of them get any work done.
I had to take this thing and turn it off and then X out the X screens during the day or during the when the Mike Church show is concluded. If I want to get any work done, I got to X them out. They can’t even be open because I’ll go to them.
Let me see if anybody, let’s see if anyone read my post as if it matters. It is a terrible distraction. Armstrong Williams has a piece out today about this, doesn’t he? Where did you tell me about that Armstrong Williams piece? That’s yesterday’s. I think it’s in today’s, isn’t it?
Are we raising a generation that knows its rights but not its responsibilities? No, AI is raising, and smartphones, dumb phones, are raising a generation that doesn’t know the difference between a right, a duty, and a responsibility. A right and a responsibility. But this story that was at CBS News yesterday, was there audio that went with this?
On the smartphone one? The Gen Z? I thought I heard you scrubbing something yesterday. It was on the top. Kendall Schroen remembers the moment she swapped her smartphone for a flip phone. Isn’t that funny that we want to go back to a Razor phone? How many of you do cheer-ins out there listening and talk radio land?
It’s kind of like a news report. Right, right, okay, it’s fine. How many of you cheer-ins out there and talk radio land, and remember how cool it was when the, who made it? Was it Motorola that made the Razor Phone? I think it was Motorola. Who made the Razor Phone? And it was a flip phone.
And it kind of looked like a Star Trek TV show communicator. And they were all the rage. Garrett Carter had a Razor flip phone. You had a Razor flip phone. And, you know, you think, Kirk to Enterprise, Kirk to Enterprise, Scotty, beam me up. Buffett has blasted rock. These people are nuts. Kirk out.
The first Razors that came out did not have a little tiny camera. The second generation of the Razors, if memory serves, had a little camera and you could actually take pictures on them. Little tiny pictures. They were pixelated. They were terrible. Horrible pictures. And people weren’t using them because the pictures were terrible. Um... But it was,
like that technology, you guys that are in communication, that was, I believe at the time, that was LTE. That technology is not even available any longer. I mean, that’s like trying to talk on a smartphone over a telegraph wire. That’s how fast, that’s how rapidly things have changed. Here’s what else changed. The smartphone, the dumb phone,
the broadband, the ubiquity broadband now has made the flow and exchange of what we call information. It’s changed it. It’s made it so that there’s no due diligence or no effort required to just Google it, to search for something. I just asked Maggie to tell me what year the smart, the razor phone came out.
She was able to, I just say, Siri, get me that. Siri, get me that. No problem getting you all like the information. It’s also removed a skill set that humans have and animals don’t. And that is the use of your intellect. And it’s an important skill set.”
