At our chapel, Father spoke of St. Fernando III, King of Castille and Leon, who led the reconquest of Hispania from the Muhammadans. He was undefeated, leading his forces into battle. So fearsome was he that the last Muhammadan city submitted to him without a fight, and at his death, they petitioned to lead the procession from the cathedral to his resting place, using their prized Arabian horses. Pope Innocent III, intrigued by Fernando's success, asked him about it. The saintly king responded that he did everything for the honor and majesty of Christ the King. Other kings had different motivations, but his was that Christ's majesty be recognized everywhere. Father then said that in all states of life, we have the same end: to bring about the Reign of Christ the King.
Fr Shannon Collins sermon, a 25 minute dissertation on Quas Primas of Pope Pius xi of Holy Memory and Fr Fahey’s dedication of Christ the King. Our Lords passion is our saving grace, but on Christ the King I prefer to see HIM crowned in Gold with the royal robes bedecking HIM as all should bow and give HIM the honor due to HIM alone. Pax Christi
Quas Primas is one of the top 5 encyclicals ever. It should be required reading of every Christian.
